Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya
Description
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) is a system of fully residential, central schools in India managed by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education. The name "Navodaya" translates to "New Dawn" or "New Rising." These schools are uniquely designed to offer high-quality, free modern education to talented children predominantly from rural areas, regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds The system reserves 75% of its seats for rural students, with specific quotas for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and girls (at least 33%). Affiliated with the CBSE, they feature a co-educational environment and emphasize holistic development, including a mandatory three-language formula. A notable feature of JNVs is the student migration program. In Class IX, a percentage of students from Hindi-speaking states are exchanged with non-Hindi-speaking states to promote cultural diversity and national integration.
